The Best First Dance Songs to Use on Your Wedding Day
Another music based post, whatta’ surprise. Enjoy!
You could definitely use any of the songs in my previous post, which is a playlist of the best songs to use for bride/groom entrances. I’ve included a couple from that list here, mainly because I think they’d be particularly good as either. Otherwise it’s a completely fresh list of new songs!
The biggest tip/advice I could give to any couple would be to look for covers. Most songs have slowed down/alternative covers to match the mood you’re going for. E.g. Sleeping at Last have whole albums of slowed down versions of popular songs. The Proclaimers - I’m Gonna Be (500 Miles) - they’ve slowed it down and made it the PERFECT romantic song. You think a song is too upbeat for your first dance? FIND THE SLOWED DOWN COVER OF IT on YouTube or Spotify, all you have to do is type in “SONG NAME COVER”.
I’ve seen a few different ways of doing a first dance, the main one the singular chosen song, where the couple does an extremely cute slow dance. Another is a choreographed dance - whether this be ballroom or a more modern dance, there’s lots of dance coaches out there! One of my particular favourites to watch was Kloe and Ant’s choreographed dance to a mini playlist of their favourite and current popular songs, then the playlist breaks into a lovefest with their guests joining the dance with Florence’s You’ve Got the Love. So if you’re struggling to choose between songs, you could always create a personalised mix.
It does NOT have to be romantic. Contrary to popular belief it could be a song you and your other half really love listening to together with non romantic lyrics. So if you’re struggling to think of a romantic song, think about an artist or a song you both finding yourself singing along to when it comes on, with or without the ‘i’ll love you forever’ type lyrics.
